A bit of research regarding the engraving:
"The 1913 jubilee was a celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty in Russia. The jubilee took place in 1913, with a series of events that included processions, religious ceremonies, and receptions which took place in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and towns along the Volga River. The jubilee was the last great celebration of the Romanov dynasty. It was a lavish spectacle that celebrated Emperor Nicholas II, the principles of autocracy, and the dynasty's legacy. The jubilee was organized by a committee headed by Alexander Bulygin, the former Minister of the Interior. The committee ordered many Tercentenary-themed items from the House of Fabergé, including the Romanov Tercentenary Egg." "Old Johnians" are former students of various schools with "John's" in their name from the UK.
